33 Healthy Life Hacks To Become A Well-Balanced Entrepreneur, Live Your Best Life and Make More $

Healthy-life-hacks

Nothing in the world is as important as your health. Especially as an entrepreneur.

I even claim that how much money you make is to a large extent correlated to your health.

Some people think that's a stretch. But it's a fact that self care for entrepreneurs is a necessary ingredient for success.

Prioritizing your health and living a balanced lifestyle is absolutely crucial for your success. At the end of the day, making money comes down to producing enough good ideas and then executing tasks to make them happen. Your ability to do that largely depends on the state of your mind and body.

This is what happens when you optimize your health:

  • You have more energy to do important work.
  • Brain function is increased (memory and processing).
  • You're less likely to get sick.
  • You'll need less time in bed as sleep need is reduced.

This compounds and will add up to a great amount accomplishments, that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

Whether you're an entrepreneur or not, you should always be doing everything you can to care for your mind and body.

If you've been feeling under the weather more than usual recently, want to feel more energized for work, or just want to live your best life – then try out these 33 healthy life hacks.

Fitness life hacks to for entrepreneurs

Exercising is one of the best things you can do to improve your physical and mental health.

We all know the amazing benefits, from stress relief and increased strength to weight loss. However, to actually get those benefits it's important to stay consistent.

Entrepreneurs are known to neglect exercise and sit inside working all day, despite experts correlating exercise with a healthy mind and balanced lifestyle.

These healthy life hacks will help you to feel the amazing benefits of working out on a regular basis and even enjoy yourself at the same time so that you can live your best life in and outside of the gym.

1. Get an accountability partner

I've included this as my first life hack on this list as it's the one that can help you achieve all of the others.

An accountability partner is somebody who agrees to hold you accountable for the goal you have set out to achieve.

Having an accountability partner is especially helpful when it comes to doing things we find hard to motivate ourselves to do, such as exercise.

As a busy entrepreneur, you may find it useful to make your accountability someone you work with who can make sure you're sticking to your exercise goals while you grow your business.

🌟 Top tip for choosing an accountability partner

Make sure you choose somebody who feels comfortable holding you accountable to your goals. For the arrangement to be successful, they must feel they can speak openly and honestly with you and call you out when you're slacking.

“Wellness accountability partners help each other set and maintain goals for diet, exercise, and overall well-being. The premise is that knowing someone else is watching you β€” and vice versa β€” raises the bar and makes it more difficult to slack off on, say, eating healthfully or working out. Knowing that someone else is counting on you does the same.”

Elizabeth Heath, writing for The Washington Post

2. Stretch for 5 minutes every morning

My second healthy life hack is to start every morning with five minutes of stretching.

When you're running a business it's easy to get into the habit of checking your emails in bed or rushing straight to work. But self care for entrepreneurs starts the second you wake up.

Not only will it give you all of the following benefits, but it's the perfect way to begin a productive and healthy morning routine. Start your first hour of the day right and the rest will follow.

Stretching has the following benefits:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Wakes you up for the day
  • Improves posture
  • Prevents injury and soreness
  • Reduces stress

🌟 Top tip for stretching

Stretching should never be painful. If you ever feel a sharp pain you should immediately stop, rest, and speak to your doctor.

3. Learn how to breath

Never underestimate the power of breathing. It keeps us calm, functioning, and alive, but most of us could be doing it more effectively.

High-stress work environments can make even the most healthy person in the world breathe erratically.

Breaths we take from our chest are often short and quick. This is the natural response many of us have to exercise or feeling anxious, but it can actually sap our energy and increase our anxiety.

Diaphragmatic breathing, however, is when you take longer, deeper breaths which make us feel calmer and more energized.

Try this five-step breathing exercise:

  1. Sit comfortably and relax your shoulders, laying one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach.
  2. Breathe in through your nose for two seconds. Feel the air move through your nostrils and into your abdomen.
  3. Your stomach should be expanding while your chest remains relatively still.
  4. Purse your lips and exhale slowly for about two seconds.
  5. Repeat these steps a few times in a row to create a simple breathing routine.

🌟 Top tip for mindful breathing

Make sure you're wearing comfortable clothing for your breathing exercises. In general, your clothes should never restrict your ability to breathe deeply.

“This is a chance for you to step out of the daily grind and to allow time to be present with yourself; that is, being present with yourself, and with whatever arises in your mind and body.”

4. Find exercises that excite you

We all know how important it is to exercise regularly, so that isn't my fourth life hack.

Instead, I urge you to find at least one type of exercise that you feel excited about.

Not everybody can motivate themselves to train for a marathon or spend hours at the gym every week, but whatever your ability or interests, I can guarantee there's an exercise out there you will enjoy.

Unique exercise ideas to try out:

  • Rock climbing
  • Iceskating
  • Swimming
  • Trampolining
  • Surfing
  • Acrobatics
  • Dancing
  • Team sports

Shy about going on your own or stuck for ideas?

Tag along with a friend to their favorite fitness activity or invite someone on a fun date to try a new exercise together. Or better yet, urge your colleagues to join you for a fun team-building exercise.

🌟 Top tip for finding exciting exercises

Many gyms offer one free or discounted class for beginners, so make a list of new classes and give each one a try to see which you enjoy the most.

5. Increase your steps by 10% every month

Everyone knows how important it is to increase your steps, especially if your job requires you to be sitting at a screen for long periods of time.

Yet going from 0-100 can be difficult. So start off simple and aim to increase your steps by just 10% each month.

Every month you will feel your fitness improving, making the next target easier to reach.

A few ideas for getting in extra steps throughout the day:

  1. Walk to work instead of driving
  2. Get a dog or offer to walk someone elses
  3. Get the stairs instead of the lift or escalator
  4. Make a point of parking as far away as possible to the entrance

Top-rated step trackers (as voted by Tech Radar)

🌟 Top tip for increasing your steps

It's easy to let hours slip by without remembering to move, so get around this by setting reminders. Some step trackers will include this feature, but if not you can block off times in your calendar or set reminders on your computer to get up and go for a walk throughout the day.

6. Create a regular gym routine

The difference between people who love the gym and people who detest the gym is clear.

The people that cannot stand the gym are usually the ones who hardly ever go, so when they do they feel uncomfortable, have low energy, and have such a negative experience they avoid it again for another six months.

Gym lovers all have a consistent routine. They get to know other members, have a favorite spot, a time of day they prefer and the more they go the more they enjoy it.

Which of these two sounds like a more healthy person?

🌟 Top tip for being more consistent with the gym

Sign up to a gym that is conveniently placed so that you never have to go out of your way to get there. This could be within walking distance to your work, on the way home from the supermarket, or anywhere you will find it easy to go to frequently.

“Without a doubt, consistent training is the most important aspect of athletic success and forward progress. Even a poorly designed or random training program will produce results if followed consistently and training occurs regularly.

In my experience, the athletes that are still performing well into their 40s, 50s, and beyond all have one thing in common: they've trained consistently over the years and rarely gave up ground.”

Food and nutrition life hacks that will make you feel great

I like to think of nutrition like fuel in a car.

If you don't fuel up, or put in the wrong thing, your car won't go very far. People are no different.

Entrepreneurs especially need to think about the fuel they put into their bodies. If you want to function at a high level, you need a high-level diet.

This doesn't mean eating nothing but veggies. A healthy lifestyle requires a mix of all of the major food groups, and of course, the occasional treat when you're celebrating a business milestone.

Try these nutritious life hacks to get you eating healthier and filling your body up with the fuel it needs to achieve your dreams.

7. Buy a fruit bowl

This sounds simple, but buying a fruit bowl can make a big difference to how much fruit you consume.

For starters, you'll never again have fruit hiding in the cupboard or fridge that you forget to eat. It will be right there on display, waiting for you to enjoy.

Secondly, it will encourage you to buy more fruit as nobody wants an empty fruit bowl lying around. This might just be the easiest way to become a more healthy person.

🌟 Top tip for wasting less fruit

However hard we try, it's only human to forget about our fruit sometimes and let it go past its best. When this happens, there's still no need to waste anything. Softer fruit makes great juices and smoothies. Likewise, shrivelend lemons are still fine for grating and yopu can make a delicious banana loaf with brown bananas.

8. Infuse your water

We could all benefit from drinking more water, especially busy entrepreneurs.

There is nothing worse than feeling dehydrated and tired in a meeting, but it's hard to get in 8 glasses a day if it doesn't excite us.

That's why infusing your water with tasty flavors is such a great life hack!

You will actually look forward to drinking your tap water, and in doing so purchase less artificially flavored drinks that are bad for the planet and your body.

Try out these delicious infusions:

  • Cucumber
  • Mint and other herbs
  • Lemon/lime/orange slices
  • Fresh and frozen berries
  • Ginger

🌟 Top tip for infusing your water

Don't like drinking floating lemon slices and mint leaves? Purchase a special water bottle with an infuser section inside, like this one.

9. Swap your chocolate bars for higher percentages

Everyone loves chocolate, right?

But a lot of chocolate we buy from the supermarket is unnecessarily bad for us. It's filled with excess milk and sugar and lacks most of the nutritious benefits found in the cacao bean's natural state.

High-quality dark chocolate should contain no less than 70% cocoa and no more than 30% sugar.

You'll need to eat less to get the same chocolate hit, it tastes better and it's much better for your body.

🌟 Top tip for choosing healthier chocolate

Eating chocolate with a higher percentage isn't just for dark chocolate lovers. When you buy craft chocolate, you can get milk and even white chocolate with higher percentages than some dark chocolates out there!

10. Watch out for secret sugar

According to WHO, the World Health Organisation, adults should be consuming no more than 30g of sugar a day. This works out at about seven sugar cubes.

However, because most of us don't consume our daily sugar intake in the form of neat cubes it can be hard to monitor when we're having too much.

When you're trying to keep your energy up in between meetings, it's easy to reach for sugary foods.

Consuming too much sugar can cause many different health concerns as well as bad skin and tooth decay.

Because of this, it's important that we don't go over our daily limit which means avoiding overly sweet foods but also learning what foods contain secret sugar that we might not realize.

Foods which can be secretly high in sugar

  • Breakfast cereals and granola bars
  • Pasta and cooking sauces
  • Pre-made salad dressings
  • Fruit smoothies
  • Pre-made iced tea
  • Condiments such as ketchup and bbq sauce

🌟 Top tip for eating less sugar

Many supermarket items contain higher than necessary amounts of sugar. Where possible, make food and drinks at home instead so you know exactly what they contain.

11. Learn to portion control

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, American portion sizes have doubled or tripled over the last twenty years.

For example, a three-inch bagel twenty year-ago is now six inches. A medium bag of popcorn that used to be five cups now contains eleven cups and the average soda size increased from 6.5 ounces to a whopping twenty.

All of this portion increase is not necessarily matched with any extra movement, making it bad news for our hearts and waistlines. So how do we fix this and achieve a more balanced lifestyle?

Use your hands for meal portioning:

Rather than struggling with scales or cups, simply use the different parts of your hands to work out how much to serve of different food groups.

This works particularly well as (generally speaking) your hand size will indicate your body size and therefore how much you need to eat. For example, women who often have smaller hands than men will often need to eat smaller portions, and for children even less.

The following is for the average woman and for men this can be doubled. Of course, use common sense with this method and always make sure you eat enough to sustain your busy lifestyle.

  • Proteins (meat, poultry, fish and beans) = a palm-sized serving
  • Vegetables and leaves = a fist-sized portion
  • Carbs (starchy vegetables and grains) = a cupped hand
  • High-fat foods (oils, nuts and butter) = a thumb sized portion

🌟 Top tip for getting better portion control

Make sure you have the right-sized plates, bowls, and even glasses for your servings. It's easy to over fil gigantic bowls with more pasta than we need, or if you only have large glasses then you'll probably overestimate how much juice you should be drinking.

12. Get a vitamin subscription

Forget to take your vitamins again?

Because the modern-day lifestyle and diet are lacking the nutrients we need to thrive, it's important to keep on top of a weekly supplement plan.

Remembering to take your vitamins is an essential part of self care for entrepreneurs.

But this is too easy to forget and it's our health that pays the price.

Take out all of the stress of buying vitamins with an easy subscription instead. You'll get exactly what you need, when you need it, and delivered to your door.

What can vitamin supplements help you with?

  • Vitamin D = Bone and hair health, resistance to becoming sick, bone pains
  • Vitamin C = Maintains healthy skin, blood vessels, cells, and bones
  • Vitamin E = Strengthens the immune system and maintains healthy skin, eyes, hair, and nails
  • Magnesium = Regulates muscles, better sleep, reduced stress levels, and balanced blood sugar levels
  • Calcium = Healthy bones and teeth
  • Iron = More energy and healthy red blood cells

🌟 Top tip for choosing vitamins

Always consult your doctor before deciding what vitamins to take. They can ask you specific questions, study your blood samples and general health, and tell you what you need and in what quantity.

13. Look after your gut health

Your gut health is a very important part of your overall health, yet it's not always prioritized as much as it should be.

Having an unhealthy gut has been linked to poor mental health, an upset digestive system, unwanted weight gain, and decreased energy levels. Four things that you don't want getting in the way of your entrepreneurial journey.

Recommended for improving gut health

  • Take extra probiotics after a round of antibiotics
  • Fermented foods
  • Foods with healthy, live bacteria such as yogurt and kefir
  • Whole, unprocessed foods
  • Sleep well and reduce your stress levels

🌟 Top tip for taking extra care of your gut

If for any reason you struggle to get enough probiotics (healthy bacteria) or prebiotics (that feed healthy bacteria) in your diet, discuss taking supplements of both with your doctor.

“While we still don’t know everything there is to know about the gut microbiome, we do know that the health of our gut has a huge impact on our overall health. So, boosting your gut health can only be a good thing.”

14. Reduce your caffeine intake

There are plenty of reasons to drink coffee.

It can feel like fuel for a busy entrepreneur at times. It also tastes great, can boost your energy and your metabolism.

But too much caffeine can be a bad thing, and people who are especially sensitive should consider reducing their intake.

Negative side effects of excessive caffeine:

  • Trouble sleeping
  • Anxiety
  • Yellowing teeth
  • Altered hormone levels in women
  • Raised blood pressure
  • Headaches
  • Caffeine dependency

🌟 Top tip for reducing caffeine intake

Get to know your sources! Work out exactly where you get your caffeine from every day and then decide what you could reduce or cut out.

Look out for the following: coffee, black tea, green tea, energy drinks, chocolate, soft drinks, and certain painkillers.

15. Don't over boil your vegetables

Vegetables are packed full of essential nutrients and antioxidants and are an important part of our diets.

But a lot of these benefits are lost by being submerged in water for long periods or boiled in hot water.

Experts suggest mixing up your cooking habits so that your vegetables are eaten in different ways, especially those that don't include water or too much heat.

Recommended cooking time for vegetables:

  • 3 Minutes = Cabbage, kale, and spinach
  • 8 Minutes = Sprouts, cauliflower, leeks, broccoli, peas, and sweetcorn
  • 12 Minutes = Carrots, parsnips, and pumpkin
  • 18 Minutes = Potatoes and swede

🌟 Top tip for boiling vegetables

Not sure whether to start your cooking time with boiled or cold water? Remember this handy tip. If a vegetable grows above ground, cook it in pre-boiled water. If it grows underground, start with cold water and begin boiling once the vegetables are already in the pan.

16. Eat raw food

Raw food is very high in nutrients, which means it usually provides more health benefits and energy.

Processed foods, on the other hand, are more likely to include saturated fats, added sugar, and salt.

Raw food ideas:

  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Soaked grains and beans
  • Nut butter
  • Kimchi
  • Raw fish and meat (prepare with caution)

🌟 Top tip for a healthy diet

Although there are many benefits to eating raw foods, there are also benefits to cooking food such as it being easily digestible and safer (in certain foods). For a healthy diet and balanced diet, try to consume a mixture of both raw and cooked foods every day for a healthy lifestyle.

17. Reduce your salt intake

Just like excess sugar can be harmful, so can consuming too much salt.

A healthy person should consume no more than 6g of salt a day, which is 2.4g sodium, and around one teaspoon.

However, we too often exceed this because we're not always aware of how much salt is in our food.

You can avoid this by educating yourself on different food types that are high in salt, adding less salt to your meals, and checking food labels.

Excess salt can be hidden in the following foods:

  • Soy sauce
  • Stock cubes
  • Anchovies
  • Cheese
  • Bacon
  • Salami
  • Smoked fish and meat
  • Condiments
  • Cereal
  • Ready meals

🌟 Top tip for reducing salt intake

Get into the habit of using less salt in your cooking. You can season food in many ways such as with pepper, garlic, lime, and herbs and over time you'll learn to love less salty foods just as much.

“About 75 per cent of the salt we eat is in everyday foods, such as bread, cheese and sauces, according to Action on Salt, so it’s easy to eat too much of it without realising. It’s important to read the nutrition label. Many foods that are high in salt don’t even taste salty, for instance, some breakfast cereals, jarred sauces, biscuits and cakes.”

18. Don't keep anything in the cupboard that you shouldn't eat on a regular basis

If your cupboards are filled with delicious but unhealthy treats and snacks, it's going to be very hard to resist when cravings come. Especially when you're having a stressful time at work or have missed a meal.

If you're hungry, these convenience foods start to look tempting even if they wouldn't usually be your first choice.

Combat this by only storing food in your cupboards, fridge, and freezer that you're happy to feed your body with on a regular basis.

Treats can be brought and consumed in moderation as part of a healthy lifestyle, but having to go to the shop or prepare them from scratch will stop any unwanted snacking and give you time to rethink.

🌟 Top tip for creating less temptation

If there's a treat you really can't live without, avoid super-size or sharing packets and buy just the amount you want to consume in one serving. For example, if you're known to find it hard to put down a tub of pringles once you get started then limit yourself to buying just the miniature tubs when you get a craving.

19. Prepare your breakfast before you go to sleep

Experts preach time and time again about the importance of not skipping breakfast.

Yet, as a busy entrepreneur, it can be all too easy to forget this important meal altogether or eat something that doesn't set you up for the day well at all.

That's why making your breakfast before you head to bed is my 19th healthy life hack.

Making your breakfast while you're still full from your evening meal, will make you much more likely to make a healthier choice of what to have.

You will save time in the morning and get to enjoy delicious food that will power your brain right through those morning meetings.

Recipe ideas for breakfasts you can make the night before:

🌟 Top tip for making breakfast the night before

If you don't think you can commit to making breakfast for yourself every evening, then try batch cooking. All of the recipes above can be made in batches and served in portions over a couple of days.

20. Cook your food from scratch

Running a business doesn't always leave you with much time for extra activities. It can be tempting to order take-out or heat up a ready meal, but one of my favorite healthy life hacks is cooking your meals from scratch.

Why?

Cooking your food from scratch has all of the following benefits:

  • You know exactly what goes into your food and can make healthy choices
  • You appreciate every meal because you have taken your time to create it
  • It can be a de-stressing and mindful practice to unwind from the workday
  • You can experiment with new flavors and ingredients

🌟 Top tip for cooking food from scratch

Cooking from scratch doesn't have to take a long time. Most recipes state the time required so you can easily choose meals that fit into your lifestyle!

Balanced lifestyle hacks to help you live your best life

Healthy habits equal a healthy mind.

A healthy mind equals more energy, good mental health, and more chance of achieving your goals. Things that are crucial for entrepreneurs.

Check out the following balanced lifestyle hacks that will help you level up and live your best life possible.

21. Prioritise your dental routine

When we think of health, oral hygiene is not usually at the top of the list.

But you cannot become a healthy person without creating a thorough dental routine. That means including all of the following steps.

  • Brushing twice daily
  • Mouthwash
  • Flossing
  • Regular dental check-ups and hygienist cleans
  • Any dental work that needs to be done
  • Caring for your gums
  • Swapping sugary treats for more healthy choices

🌟 Top tip for prioritising your dental routine

Use your digital calendar or phone to set reminders for every six months so that you never forget to make a dentist appointment again. Even if you don't feel like you have any issues prevention is always better than a cure.

“What many people may not realize, is that poor dental health can have a profoundly, negative effect on areas outside of the mouth, including your heart, diabetes, pregnancy, and chronic inflammation, such as arthritis β€” to name a few.”

Legacy community health

22. Go cold water swimming

Although research is limited, many people believe there are both physical and mental health benefits to swimming in cold water.

Many swimmers claim they feel a ‘post-swim high' and feelings of elation, whereas others report increased immunity, high self-esteem, and decreased inflammation.

Do you dread that feeling of shock as your skin is immersed in the cold water?

According to The Outdoor Swimming Society, as few as “five or six three-minute immersions where the whole body (not the head) are immersed in cold water will halve the cold shock response”, in other words, frequent swimming will decrease that uncomfortable chill and mean cold water swimming can become part of a balanced lifestyle.

🌟 Top tip for outdoor swimming

Never put yourself in danger by swimming outdoors alone, and always make sure you can easily enter and exit the water.

23. Invest in supportive shoes

Our feet support our bodies every single day. From meeting clients, traveling for work, and the day-to-day running of our businesses.

Keeping them at their best is crucial if you want to lead an active, balanced lifestyle long into the future.

A big part of taking care of our feet is wearing supportive shoes. This can help to:

  • Avoid aches and blisters
  • Reduce the risk of injury
  • Improve circulation
  • Better posture

🌟 Top tip for choosing supportive shoes

Always go shoe shopping in the afternoon or after you have been walking around for some time. Our feet naturally expand with use so this will ensure you get the right size and shaped shoes for your feet.

“At the end of the day, footwear is worn to protect you! Choose your shoes depending on the type of activity you will be most involved with as it will be designed to handle those movements.”

Lara Physiotherapy Health Network

24. Invest in a standing desk

As an entrepreneur, you probably spend a lot of time sitting at your desk.

But sitting for long periods can increase your risk of chronic health conditions, obesity, and back pain. Not only that, it can make you feel tired, sluggish, and harm your posture.

That's why one of the best life hacks is to invest in a standing desk.

Benefits of a standing desk:

  • Makes you more productive and energized while you work
  • Better posture
  • Less chance of obesity and other health conditions
  • Reduced chance of back pain

Experts suggest splitting your time 50/50 between standing and sitting at your desk, so opt for one that is adjustable so that you can easily change over throughout the day.

🌟 Top tip for staying healthy while you work

Get bored standing in one position for long periods of time? Why not try a bike desk like this that doubles up as a workout?

25. Make a back to front to-do list

It's highly likely that one of the first things you do every day is write your to-do list. It's a great way to plan your day and it feels good to tick off what you have achieved.

What doesn't feel so good, however, is when plans change (as they often do in business) and you have the same list remaining at the end of the day, despite knowing you have worked hard.

When this happens, or whenever you feel like mixing it up, I suggest creating a back-to-front to-do list.

This is a to-do list you write at the end of your day of everything you have achieved.

Seeing everything you got done written down instead of everything you didn't is a lot more motivating.

🌟 Top tip for creating a back to front to do list

If you don't see this life hack working for you throughout the week, try it out on the weekend instead. It's all too easy to get to Sunday evening and feel like you have wasted your time away, even when you are supposed to be relaxing.

26. Master power naps

Napping used to be seen as something for children, not hard-working professionals. But things are changing!

Short power naps can re-energize you and make you more productive throughout your day. It's the perfect mid-day self care for entrepreneurs.

Experts suggest around 30 minutes for a mid-day sleep is enough to feel re-energized and avoid getting into a deep sleep, which can be hard to wake up from.

If you decide to try a longer nap (which may be even more refreshing) then the key is to work out how long your natural sleep cycle is so that you can wake up at the end of a cycle.

🌟 Top tip for productive napping

Try having your afternoon coffee just before your nap. It sounds counterintuitive, but because caffeine takes around half an hour to kick in, having a coffee just before your nap will help you wake up feeling refreshed and alert!

“If you only have 5 minutes to spare, just close your eyes; even a brief rest has the benefit of reducing stress and helping you relax a little, which can give you more energy to complete the tasks of your day.”

Very well mind

28. Schedule in time to recharge

We charge our technology every day without fail, especially as entrepreneurs.

Yet when it comes to ourselves, we forget or don't take the time to rest and recharge. We let our batteries get dangerously low and risk burnout and breakdowns.

That's why it is so integral to a healthy lifestyle to schedule set times to recharge and spend time with yourself, doing what refills your soul. This will be different for everyone, but I recommend the following.

Daily: Set reminders for small moments of peace you can give yourself during even the busiest of days. Try a short walk or five minutes of meditation.

Weekly: Everybody needs a day off. Make sure you schedule in at least one day a week where you can live your best life, and fill it with activities that bring you calm and joy.

Quarterly: If you can, try to schedule a small break to end each quarter. This doesn't have to be a fancy holiday (although that also works) but even just a few days of alone time or away from your usual schedule can help you recharge.

🌟 Top tip for recharging your battery

Repeat after me. Rest is productive. In fact, sometimes its the most healthy choice you can make. Your phone wouldn't function if you didn't charge it – entrepreneurs are no different.

29. Journal your emotions instead of ignoring them

Fewer habits are as unhealthy as suppressing and holding onto negative feelings, but sometimes you just don't want to talk about it.

When you're in this situation, try writing down all of your thoughts in a journal instead of ignoring them.

Until you have spent a little time acknowledging your worries and thinking about how they make you feel, they won't go anywhere.

This is one of the best forms of self care for entrepreneurs, who often hold onto a lot of stressful emotions.

The benefits of journaling:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Less likely to vent to the wrong people or in an unhealthy way
  • Recognising your feelings, triggers, and even solutions
  • Therapeutic and relaxing
  • Helpful to look back on in the future

🌟 Top tip for journalling

You never know when you're going to feel the need to journal, so try to make sure you always have it within reach. If you have to go somewhere you cannot take it with you then you might like to use the notes app on your phone or a specific journalling app.

30. Unplug from screens at least one day a month

Just like a lot of entrepreneurs, I use screens for the majority of my work.

But that just makes it even more important to make (at least) one day a month screen-free. That means no scrolling, no emails, no blue light.

Not only will it help give your eyes a rest, but your mental health should also improve. You can make any of the following replacements:

  • Books instead of television
  • Walk instead of scrolling
  • Brainstorm ideas for the future instead of replying to emails

🌟 Top tip for less screen time

Bonus life hack: Try to sleep with your phone in a different room as you so that you don't start your day with the bad habit of endless scrolling.

31. Spend time every day with friends and family

This healthy life hack might seem obvious, but when you're hustling away in your business it can be easy to go days or even weeks without spending time with your friends and family.

This is bad for our mental health, relationships and can even affect our work in the long term.

So make sure you spend time with people who make you happy at least once a day as part of your healthy lifestyle.

Even if it's just during meal times or for an hour in the evening, you'll have something to look forward to every day.

🌟 Top tip for making more time for friends and family

Over the last year, you may have found it harder to socialise with friends and family. Especially if you've had any national lockdowns or restrictions.

However, with technology as advanced as it is today, not being able to physically meet someone shouldn't get in your way. Try group calls and be creative with different quality time activities you can do while you're apart.

32. Interview yourself

To become a happy entrepreneur and healthy person, you need to really get to know yourself.

That means learning about what gives and takes your energy, what makes you happy, and anything else that matters to you.

However, it can be difficult to get to know yourself when you're always busy.

So try and spend some time alone, take yourself out for a meal or go for a long walk to get yourself thinking without distractions.

Not sure where to start? Think about the following questions:

  • Are you introverted or extroverted?
  • What is your love language?
  • What kind of working style do you enjoy?

33. Meditate

Meditation is an ancient practice, known for its calming and de-stressing benefits.

If you're trying to live your best life, you must try meditation. There are different types, such as guided or non-guided, so you can choose one that works best for you.

In fact, you can meditate any way you like. Whether you prefer to spend five short minutes in your day or set a whole hour aside – it's your meditation and your rules.

The benefits of meditation:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Calming and relaxing
  • Enhances self-awareness
  • Improves attention span and focus

How to meditate in three easy steps

  1. Get into a comfortable position that you can sit in for the duration of your meditation
  2. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing
  3. Sit in silence, focused on the feeling of air entering and leaving your body for a set period of time

🌟 Top tip for meditating

Although the actual act of meditating is very simple, it can be hard to incorporate something so new into your routine if you're not used to it. Try meditation apps or classes to help you learn the habit and by the time you have started to feel the benefits, you won't want to stop.

“We meditate to counter the β€œstress response” with the β€œrelaxation response,” leading to a decrease in blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen consumption. It also creates a more gradual change in the brain, which is where meditation really works its magic.”
