Keyword Density Checker

Free Keyword Density Checker Tool

This keyword density checker tool shows you the most used words and phrases on a specific page. It will show you many times it is mentioned and also the keyword ratio in relation to total amount of words.

It shows you single keywords and up to 4 word phrases. All you need to do is put the URL of the webpage you want to check, and in a matter of seconds, you'll get a list of the most used keywords on that page.

When to use a keyword density checker?

The keyword density checker can be used when you're optimizing your content to make sure that you added the relevant keywords in a natural way.

It's very important to not overoptimize your keywords, as that sends clear signals to search engines that you're trying to manipulate rankings. However, it is equally important that you do mention your target keywords enough times, and make sure the content has a balanced keyword ratio.

Always use a keyword density checker before publishing new content.

What is a good keyword ratio?

There's no exact guidelines when it comes to keyword ratio.

Some “experts” say that you should aim for at least 5% keyword density, while others are sure that mentioning the keyword once is enough.

Although we don't know for sure what the magical ratio is, we do know for sure that you can both over-optimize and under-optimize your keywords.

Overall, it depends on the length of the content. The longer article, the more times a keyword can be mentioned. However, the longer the article, the less keyword ratio is needed.

In this article, we mention our main keyword “keyword density checker” a total of 7 times, which is more than enough for an article with not even 400 words. That gives us a keyword density ratio of around 2%.

If you have a 200 word article with 2% keyword density, that could be OK, as that means you mentioned the keyword 4 times. On the other hand, if you would have a 4000 word article with a 2% keyword density, that could be seen as spam, as you mentioned the keyword 80 times (highly unnatural).

Recommended guidelines for 1000 words article

  • Mention the main keywords (1-2 words) at least 3-5 times, but more is recommended.
  • Mentioned medium tail keywords (2-3 words) 2 or 3 times.
  • Mention long tail keywords (4+ words) 1 or 2 times. Don't overdo it.

In The Complete SEO Checklist, we go deeper into how keyword density affects your rankings, and the importance of not overdoing it (but getting minimum effective dose).
